Gregory McCann is a PhD candidate at Tamkang University, a Lecturer in English at Chang Gung University in Taiwan, and an avid jungle trekker.

He is the author of Called Away by a Mountain Spirit: Journeys to the Green Corridor, an account of his expeditions to a lost world of tropical jungles and remote grasslands known only to a handful of poachers and loggers, deep in the interior of Virachey National Park in Ratanakiri Province of Northeastern Cambodia.

McCann has visited Virachey every year since 2010 researching the connections between tribal animism and regional ecology for his PhD dissertation.

His most recent trip in January 2013 took him and professional ornithologist Howie Nielsen to the remote Yak Yeuk Grasslands, a place only a handful of outsiders have ever seen.
